Gilgamesh was the fifth king of the ancient Sumerian city of Uruk and a son of the hero Lugalbanda and goddess Ninsun. By adoption, he is also the brother of Enkidu.
He possessed superhuman strength, stamina, intelligence, and charisma. Despite his legendary parents, he started his career as a terrible ruler. He was infamous for raping and murdering his subjects. Lucky for them, Gilgamesh learns valuable lessons about life while slaying Humbaba, killing the Bull of Heaven, and questing for immortality. After he returns from his epic journies, he was known to be a good and just king.
According to the Sumerian King List, Gilgamesh ruled the city of Uruk for 126 years. After his reign, he was succeeded by Ur-Nungal.
